To better understand how the user would navigate through the experience for Brush a user flow was designed. I started by outlining the main functions of the user flow. I then expanded on those sections to figure out what sort of supplemental features could be added to create a fully functional user experience leaving nothing undefined. This process also helps to communicate how to proceed with the layouts of each page featured below and reach the end of the user flow.
When accessing the site the user will be brought to the homepage or the explore page of the website. From here, other pages such as learn, create, pro, and user profile pages can be accessed. The left panel is used for filtering results, accessing playlists, and viewing a user's followed mentors for quick access to their favorite videos, tutorials, and courses. The main section of this page consists of content catered to individual user profiles to provide the most efficient and convenient learning experience.
The learn page is a more focused landing page for users who know what they are looking for. Rather than browsing suggested results and exploring new topics, the user can access their most recently viewed mentor pages and most relevant course materials and tutorials. The same left panel is available to filter results, view playlists, and mentor pages.
On the Create page, users can upload there own private videos and playlists for required course materials. Mentors can use this page to upload videos and tutorials or put courses together to teach other users about their own specializations. The same options are available for filtering your own uploads and accessing playlists and other mentors content.
The watch page is the main destination of the user flow and where users will spend most of their time. This is where users will consume content including videos, tutorials, course materials, livestreams, and more. Recommended content is provided on the right panel. Users can like certain videos and tutorials to save for later viewing as well as comment on videos and interact with, help, and leave feedback for other viewers and mentors.
Below is a functional prototype for the desktop version of the Brush desktop app. Navigate from the homepage to the learn and create page and finally the watch page.
Brush is meant to have a semi-professional feel and finish that fits in the balance between work and play. The user should feel comfortable and inspired but never pressured. The goal is to build upon the existing motivation that has brought the user to the product in the first place. Through the use of bright and vibrant colors, bold and blunt typefaces, and soft icons, the aim was to create a clean and engaging experience for the user.
Motivating One's self can be a difficult task and even more challenging when faced with the pressure of following through with the task at hand. Take learning a new language, practicing a new skill, or starting a new project for example. Brush was designed to create a user friendly experience to help self motivated individuals stay on track. While working on this project I faced challenges of my own and in doing so was reminded of the challenges that many Brush users will face. This was a primary inspiration for many of the concepts and features of Brush.
